Dental Hygienist Responsibilities

As a key clinical provider on our team, you’ll deliver exceptional hygiene care while partnering closely with our dentists and support staff. Your key responsibilities include:

• Go above and beyond to deliver the myDental Experience for every patient
• Welcome and seat patients warmly, setting the tone for a positive visit
• Prepare and properly set up treatment rooms for all hygiene procedures
• Review and update patient health histories; chart progress, treatments, and home care compliance
• Perform scaling and root planing, prophylaxis, and other hygiene procedures with precision and care
• Apply fluorides and other preventative agents to arrest dental decay
• Conduct thorough periodontal assessments using probes; recognize and chart early signs of gum disease
• Capture, process, and mount x-rays; interpret independently as needed
• Perform head, neck, and oral cancer screenings
• Assess and evaluate patients to assist in diagnosis of dental hygiene conditions and efficacy of treatment
• Develop and present treatment plans; communicate findings clearly to patients and providers
• Educate and motivate patients on proper oral hygiene and preventative home care techniques
• Work chairside with the dentist during hygiene examinations as needed
• Schedule appropriate re-care appointments to support patient retention and continuity of care
• Maintain hygiene handpieces and instruments in good repair and sufficient supply
• Assist with sterilization duties and uphold strict OSHA and HIPAA compliance standards

Qualifications & Skills

• Associate’s degree from an ADA-accredited dental hygienist program required
• Active Texas Dental Hygienist License required
• CPR certification required
• 1+ year of dental hygiene experience preferred; new graduates welcome
• Local anesthesia and/or nitrous oxide certification a plus
• Strong clinical assessment, charting, and communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and independently in a fast-paced setting
• Professional appearance, positive attitude, and genuine passion for patient care
