Do you feel shy about your smile because of imperfections in your teeth? An attractive smile can make a world of difference in the way you feel about your appearance.

Advanced cosmetic dentistry can help you to beautify your smile by correcting a variety of dental concerns including crooked, chipped, cracked, misshaped, and discolored teeth. Veneers are an especially popular way to cosmetically improve the appearance of a smile. They are long lasting, relatively painless to put on, and can be done in a short amount of time.

What are Veneers?

Veneers are thin, shell-like coverings that are custom-fit over each tooth. They are made of porcelain or composite resin and are permanently bonded to the surface of any teeth receiving the treatment. Veneers are crafted to hide any imperfections, but can also be used to enhance aesthetics and symmetry. For many patients, this is their primary reason to have them fitted. Veneers give them the opportunity to create the beautiful smile they always wanted!

Are Veneers Right for You?

Patients choose veneers for any number of reasons. Some want to mask perceived flaws in their natural teeth and gum line, while others are looking for an image makeover to get that perfect smile. Good candidates for veneers will have natural teeth that are strong and well-structured, and be in good physical health.

If you have any teeth that have extensive underlying damage such as severe decay or major cracks and chips, you may be better served to have a crown fitted. A conversation with an experienced dentist can help you make the best choice for your situation.

What to Expect

Your dentist will speak with you about your desired outcome and discuss the options to help you create your best smile. Once you’ve had a consultation with the dentist to determine that veneers are a good choice for you, the prepping begins.

A small amount of surface enamel is removed from the teeth being treated. After that, an impression mold of your mouth is taken. This impression is used to create the perfect fit between your existing tooth structure and the veneer overlay. A dental lab will need time to create your permanent veneers, so you’ll be fitted with a temporary veneer until then.

Once the permanent veneers are ready, you’ll need to return to the office for final fitting. Putting on veneers requires a skilled dentist that can serve as both craftsman and artist as they adjust shape, size, and the color of your new veneers to appear just as you want.

When they’re finished, take care of your teeth like you normally do. Brush and floss daily, and see your dentist for routine checkups as scheduled.
